Where to Brunch in Houston

Where to Brunch In Houston

Do you know what the most important meal of the day is? Is it Lunch? Maybe Dinner? Its obviously Breakfast, right?

…Wrong. Its Brunch. At least according to the Houston culture.

Brunch is more than just an amalgamation of the words “Breakfast” and “Lunch”. It’s sort of a life style. Where friends and family dressed in their best to go to trendy dining spots,  sip mimosas and spritzers, while simultaneously ordering pancakes, chicken fried steak, and truffle fries.

If someone were to come to Houston, they should know that Houston has a huge brunch culture. We all like to eat , but there is a certain magic about brunch time. Its probably because brunch in Houston can easily turn into a day party, if you let it. As a matter of fact, we have something called Sunday Funday which is basically just a party like collective mindset where people go get brunch and then drink and vibe throughout the day( I’m pretty positive this happens everywhere across the U.S, especially in the Southern states but I’m mainly speaking about Houston).  Its almost like a last ditch effort to enjoy the weekend before the work week starts again.

In my previous post I talked about How to Optimize Your Time In Houston and I briefly mentioned some restaurants to consider. Check out some of these other restaurants that are great choices for brunch.

a’Bouzy

This bistro serves French inspired American cuisines that are meant  to be paired  with their extensive wine list consisting of more than 1000 labels from around the world. A’bouzy has a light, airy, warm atmosphere that maybe reminiscent to French countryside. This bistro has a beautiful indoor space with a lively patio for all the wine clinks. The food is delicious and you can’t go wrong with a place that emphasizes good eats with good drinks.

Medium Rare

This is a  steak restaurant within Midtown Houston. They are most noted for their dinner service, but their brunch service is nothing to sneeze at.  You’re probably thinking ” steak? for breakfast?” and the answer is “Yes!” Brunch is served every  Saturday and Sunday from from 10:30AM to 4 PM. Medium Rare keeps their menu simple and consist, but each dish is bold and full of flavor. My favorite dish on the brunch menu is the French toast and sausage, a 24 hour soaked French toast that is one of the house specialties. They also serve bottomless mimosas, screwdrivers, and/or  bloody mary’s at brunch service, so you can leave happy and full for sure.

Lost & Found

This is a relaxed midtown restaurant that brings the food, the drinks, and the vibes. With views of downtown from the outside patio, Lost & Found offers a unique dining experience that is perfect for a brunch day out. The food and cocktails are uniquely curated to provide a fresh take on southern cuisine and provide customers with hefty portions and flavorful bites. Be prepared to rock in your seat listening to live music as you eat and drink to your hearts content. This place is pretty popular, so make sure to get there in a reasonable time. Remember, planning ahead and getting a reservation doesn’t hurt.

The Sunrise House

This upscale bunch and breakfast boutique is located in the  Montrose and River Oaks area…Uptown Houston if you will. They offer a diverse range  of innovative and health conscious dishes that also reimagines your favorite breakfast classics such as the sunny side egg rolls or the bayou city shrimp n’ grits. This restaurant defiantly brings on the sunshine with its vibrant dishes and warm atmosphere.

The Rustic

If you are looking for the good ole western feel to your brunch experience, The Rustic is the place to be. This restaurant prides itself on serving hand-crafted American cuisines and premium cocktails. They serve more than just brunch, but their meals surly drive home the comfort food aspect. The dishes created are all locally sourced and cooked on a wood grill, which really gives off that home feel.  The Rustic also provides live music, so it really does feel like a backyard get together with all the southern charm Texas is known for.

Xochi (So-Chee)

Xochi, located in Downtown Houston, pays homage and celebrates the culinary vibrancy of Oaxaca, Mexico. The foods and drinks are all Oaxaca inspired which highlights the regions specialties  such as mole, chocolate, mezcal, and edible insects ( don’t worry, its only if you want to try it ).  Everything is made from scratch following traditional methods from the cheese to the mexican chocolate. This is an experience you surly don’t want to skip out on.

Bloom & Bee

This is an Uptown restaurant that takes its inspiration from “Lush gardens full of blooms”as mentioned on their website and certainly presents the elegance that is synonymous with the Post Oak area. Expect to see extravagant floral displays , beautiful glass flowers glistening from the ceiling, and an abundance of natural lighting. This space would be perfect for a tea party themed brunch. The pastel colors really highlight the serenity of the place. The menu consists of light bites to hearty pasta dishes that pair  beautifully with the wine and spirits that are seasonally showcased. This is an upscale brunch spot, so dress to impress (business casual) and be prepared to spend.

Kulture

Located on the strip of Avenida de las Americas across from the George R Brown Center in Downtown Houston, Kulture is a fresh take on Caribbean and Southern comfort food. This restaurant explores food, drinks, and music through the cultural contributions of the African diaspora. Expect dishes that really speak to the idea of comfort food like Oxtail Ragout, Shrimp& Grits, and fried Okra. keep in mind the menu rotates seasonally so, whenever you come back ( and you will) you may find something new to try. All dishes are satiating and flavorful as well as the drinks refreshing and innovative. You will not leave unsatisfied.

Prey

Located on Post Oak Blvd in Uptown Houston, Prey is an elevated social dining experience that prides itself on innovative takes of comfort food classics and globally inspired dishes. Prey brings the vibes and the food  by creating a space where people can show up and show out and eat delicious chef curated dishes while doing it. Enjoy a gorgeous view of the city while listening to music to set the mood of a casual but upscale brunch day out. This is an upscale brunch spot, so dress to impress (business casual) be prepared to spend.

These Houston hot spots all offer their own flare that makes Houston what it is. And this is only a fraction of the hotspots in and around Houston. Restaurants are always popping up and you may find something new. In any case, explore what’s out there and happy brunching.
